Understanding the Warrior Hockey Program

What is Warrior Hockey?

USA Hockey’s Warrior Hockey Discipline is dedicated to injured and disabled U.S. military veterans who have served our country and play the sport of ice hockey. As one of the Disabled Hockey Section's newest disciplines, Warrior Hockey is quickly growing across the country. While some of the participants played hockey prior to being injured, many try it for the first time for therapeutic reasons.

To be eligible to compete in the Warrior Hockey Discipline, participants must have a discharge under honorable conditions with the ability to provide official documentation from their designated branch of service.

Impact of Warrior Hockey on Veterans

The purpose of Warrior hockey is to provide a space for disabled veterans to heal through hockey. Warrior hockey has provided services and opportunities for over 600 veterans since it’s inception.

It provides a physical outlet for exercise, a team members can be a part of, and the opportunity for team competition. Most of all, it provides the closeness and camaraderie that our veterans often miss the most about serving.

Growth and Popularity of Warrior Hockey

Since it’s inception in 2018, Warrior hockey has grown from a handful of teams to over 30 teams nationwide.

Team Composition and Leadership

Each team of the Flyers Warriors competes at a different tier within the national championships. Each team competes in the division that best corresponds to the overall skill level. The overall program is led by the board of directors.

The program owes a debt of gratitude to our coaches, including Brad Marsh, Rob Baer, Jeff Frankel, Bernie Sweeney and, Dave MacIsaac. Our coaches have been working on skills and skating with the main focus of supporting each other to make our program the absolute best it can be.

The Flyers Warriors have competed in every major tournament hosted by USA Warrior Hockey since our inception in 2018. 2020 was a special year where all three tiers won their respective divisions.

As everyone knows, hockey is a very expensive sport. It is important that we can continue to afford all the costs associated with running a team of over 150 active and inactive players.

If you would like to support the team financially, please consider donating here. Every donation helps. We are a registered 501(c)(3), and your donations are tax deductible. You can also support the team by attending games or sharing our posts on social media.

Building a Community of Support

Off the ice, the Flyers Warriors are busy supporting our partners in the community. We work closely with Toyota on their Philabundance campaign, as well as the US Marine Corps Reserve toys for tots program. along with many other events throughout the year in and around the Philadelphia area.

There will be Food and Refreshment by Tony Daggett Catering along with some mighty special Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies Alumni10% of our Net Proceeds for the evening will go to Ed Snider Youth Hockey and Education.

The price of Admission will be at least one nonperishable food item and one unwrapped new toy, so that we may distribute them to those in need.

The 2025 USA Hockey Long Drink Warrior Classic is scheduled to take place from Thursday morning, November 6, 2025, through Sunday, November 9, 2025, at AdventHealth Center Ice in Tampa, Florida. Games will begin on Thursday, November 6th at approximately 8 am.

Teams will be grouped into different tiers based on their skill level, starting from the highest skill level, Elite, followed by tiers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in descending order.

The Warrior Hockey Discipline of USA Hockey is focused on supporting injured and disabled US Military Veterans who have served our country and enjoy playing ice hockey. To be eligible to compete in the Warrior Hockey Discipline, participants must have been discharged from service under honorable conditions with the ability to provide official documentation from their designated military branch.

Come join us in honoring our Veterans at The People For People Foundation’s 2025 Veteran’s Picnic at the Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds in Mullica Hill, NJ on Saturday, September 6th. Entertainment to include performances by Daniele Spence, Michael Jones, Deborah Ann Smoot, Joanie Schneider and your host, Greg Armstrong. A free luncheon will be served along with military displays and informational tables! 11:00am till 3:00pm, this is a rain or shine event. The Flyers Warriors will be participating in Checking for Charity 2025. We have two teams competing. Two great things paired together; Playing hockey while raising money for local charities. More detailed information related to this event can be found here https://www.checkingforcharity.org/

After a seven year wait, the Powerhockey Cup is back! The Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay organization is excited to announce they will host the 2025 Powerhockey Cup. This year’s tournament will be held on August 1–4 at Neumann University in Aston, PA. Come out and watch the best Powerhockey players in the United States and Canada compete for the coveted Powerhockey Cup. The four day tournament is free and open to the public.
